Schengen visa
from Canada.

Wings Travels handles Schengen visa applications from Calgary for France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Austria, Greece, Portugal, and the other 19 Schengen countries. Application prep, VFS Calgary biometrics booking, travel insurance with Schengen-specific coverage, and document review.

The Schengen area covers a large group of European countries under one visa, which sounds simpler than it is. The complication is that you do not apply to Schengen — you apply to one specific country's mission, and choosing the wrong one is grounds for refusal on its own, regardless of how strong the rest of your file is.

Two rules decide which. If your trip is mainly in one country, you apply to that country. If nights are split evenly with no clear main destination, you apply to the country of first entry. A trip flying into Amsterdam and spending nine of eleven nights in Italy is an Italian application, not a Dutch one, even though the Netherlands is where you land. Getting this backwards is one of the more frustrating ways to lose a fee.

The second Schengen-specific requirement is insurance, and it is a genuine hard gate rather than a formality. You must hold travel medical cover valid across the entire Schengen area, meeting the minimum coverage threshold and including repatriation. Missing or non-compliant insurance is a refusal, not a request for more documents, and a general travel policy bought for a different trip will not necessarily satisfy it.

How Wings Travels helps

We determine the correct mission from your actual itinerary before any form is completed, which is the step most self-filed applications get wrong. From there we arrange Schengen-compliant travel medical insurance, build an itinerary where flights and accommodation reconcile night by night, and book the biometrics appointment early, since appointment supply rather than processing time is what usually dictates whether a summer trip is achievable. Visa preparation is included when you book flights with us.

Before you file

Where Schengen applications go wrong.

Applying to the wrong country

Main destination by nights spent; if genuinely split evenly, country of first entry. This is assessed against your own itinerary, so an itinerary that contradicts your choice of mission undermines the application before anything else is read.

Non-compliant insurance

Cover must be valid across the whole Schengen area, meet the minimum coverage amount, and include repatriation. This is checked, and a policy that falls short is a refusal rather than a request to supply something better.

Applying too early or too late

There is both an earliest date you may apply and a minimum lead time before travel. Applications outside that window are rejected on timing alone. Appointment availability, not processing, is usually the real constraint in peak season.

Itinerary that does not hold together

Flight dates, hotel bookings, and the stated purpose must agree with each other. Accommodation that does not cover every night of the trip, or return flights that do not match the visa dates requested, are read as an incomplete plan.

FAQ

Schengen Area (27 countries) visa questions.

Which country do I apply to for a multi-country European trip?

The country where you will spend the most nights. If nights are split evenly with no clear main destination, apply to the country of first entry. Applying to the wrong mission is a refusal ground by itself, so this is worth getting right before you complete any form.

What insurance does a Schengen visa require?

Travel medical insurance valid throughout the Schengen area, meeting the required minimum coverage and including repatriation. It is verified as part of the application, and non-compliant cover results in a refusal rather than a request for a better policy.

How far in advance should I apply?

As early as the rules permit, which is several months before travel. In peak season the binding constraint is biometrics appointment availability rather than processing time, and appointments for summer travel are frequently exhausted well before applicants start looking.

Does a Schengen visa cover the UK or Ireland?

No. Neither is part of the Schengen area and both have entirely separate requirements. A trip combining Paris and London needs the Schengen visa plus whatever the UK requires for your nationality.

Can I enter through a different country than the one that issued the visa?

Generally yes, provided your main destination remains the issuing country and your itinerary still reflects what you applied on the basis of. What you cannot do is obtain a visa from a mission with short appointment waits and then spend the whole trip somewhere else.
